Does Emancipation Make Slaves Happy or Sad?

As I have been writing on the subject of Redemption and how regeneration and conversion are described by the metaphor of slaves and prisoners being set free, I thought I would share this thought.

When people get out of slavery and prison, does it make them happy?

Almost universally it does. Then why do Hardshells say that regeneration makes sinners sad (as a result of deep conviction of sin and fear of divine judgement)? If they are being set free, ought they not to be happy in the act? I have written on this subject many times, generally in connection with the work or experience of "conviction." For instance see my posting

Does Regeneration Make Sinners Happy?
