Best Sermon Yet From A PB

Elder Jeremiah Bass, new senior pastor at Cincinnati Primitive Baptist Church, preached probably the best sermon I have ever heard from a primitive Baptist. His sermon for this morning was on Hebrews chapter two and his defense of the perseverance of the saints was excellent. He opposed the teaching of many Hardshells who teach that one can live in sin and still be a child of God and go to heaven. He also affirmed the necessity of faith in Christ for salvation and for perseverance.

I was also glad to see that his homiletical style keeps getting better. I studied "direct address" in speech communication in college and Bass's homily (familiar talk or chat) was direct. He exhorted and pleaded. He warned all, both saint and sinner.

Oh how happy I am to see this kind of preaching. It is the kind that our forefathers displayed, the ones who were most blessed in converting saints and sinners.

I am sure that the Lord will bless this kind of preaching, the kind that characterized Spurgeon. Keep elder Bass and Cincinnati in your prayers. To listen to the sermon go (here).
