Inflation = God's Curse

Said the prophet Haggai:

“You have sown much, and bring in little; You eat, but do not have enough; You drink, but you are not filled with drink; You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; And he who earns wages, Earns wages to put into a bag with holes.” (1: 6)

The state of the people to whom the prophet spoke was so like what exists in our day. Because of the people's rebellion against the Lord God cursed them so that the people were in the awful economic conditions above described.

Unfruitful harvests and poor wages, lack of food and drink, lack of heat, and inability to earn enough to keep up with inflation, which is compared to putting money into a "bag with holes," are all signs of God's judgment.

When there is "not enough" of a staple it becomes more expensive, a function of the law of supply and demand.

Today we see not only a "high cost of living" but also a cost of living high.

"And having food and raiment let us be therewith content." (I Tim. 6: 8)
