Gospel In The Genealogy

Just like "totem poles" and family staffs both record and tell history, so too do the genealogical names of the line between Adam and Noah tell the story of the Messiah.

Here is how we ought to read it:

Mankind has been appointed to death and sorrow - > The Blessed God shall come down to teach mankind and his death will bring the despairing comfort and rest.

Is that not the essence of the gospel concerning the Messiah and salvation?

  1. This is absolutely awesome! We would do well to consider deeply the meaning of the names we give to our children. Children are an inheritance from the Lord, and it is our children and our children's children that will bear the message of the Christ to the world! To KNOW that His death shall bring the despairing comfort and rest is to know you are His elect! Are you despairing and troubled? TRUST HIM! OH TRUST HIM!

  2. My mother did as you advise and she and dad named me "Stephen Michael." How is that for a biblical name?

  3. Yes that is a goo name "crown (Stephen)of he who resembles God (Michael)"! Of course a name from any language is fine, but it is advisable that it has a meaning that will point the child to God, or a desire from the parents for the child to be devoted to God. My name Kenneth Frank means "handsome, born of fire, royal oath and free". Oh how I was "born of fire" when the Holy Ghost sought me out, and how His royal oath to save His people from their sins is ever true, and THAT has made me FREE!
