How Christians Should See Impending Death

In reading one of my daily devotions today that I get in my email, there was a short devotional by Dr. Billy Graham who cited Dr. G. Campbell Morgan, the distinguished British clergyman, who said (emphasis mine):

“I never begin my work in the morning without thinking that perhaps he may interrupt my work and begin His own. I am not looking for death. I am looking for Him.”

Though he may have said this with his view of the rapture in mind, yet it is certainly true with Christians being raptured at death. Death for the Believer is when his spirit "flies away" to heaven. (See Psalm 90: 10) Death for the Believer is a "departure," a time to be "taken up," or a time to ascend into Heaven.

The time before dying is what is often the most feared by Christians. No one wants to spend days, weeks, months, or years in pain from disease prior to dying. But, in such cases the Believer may long for death even more than normal, as it will not only usher him into God's presence but it will end all his or her sufferings. Death is not the end for the Christian, but the beginning.
