This will be a short followup or postscript for the previous posting "The Symbol Or The Thing Signified?" (here).
When we as believers say that we are saved by the "cross of Calvary," do we mean that we are saved by a piece of wood? No, we mean we are saved by what took place on the cross. When we preach the "cross," do we preach a mere piece of wood? The cross is literal but it signifies something. So, when we say that we are saved by the cross, we mean that we are saved by what cross now signifies. Don't you see?
